The sound production for “Our Town Was Visited by an Ice Cream Truck” made me physically uncomfortable – especially the whole headache part. You guys did an amazing job! Great way to kick off the season. I can’t wait to be able to purchase my season pass.

Thanks! I wanted to make it as uncomfortable as possible. I used a very similar trick when I was designing sound for a film about severe migraines and pass outs. Sound cuts right through your brain 😀 Literally!

The sensation was so vivid! I was right there with the main character. Great work :)

I hope it’s just for that story only (I’m still listening, but had to come comment), because iirc every single story in the season finale had that effect – the sound starts, the voices get lower in volume and it gets really hard to understand what’s being said. (At least that’s the effect: that sound is so overpowering, it gets hard to understand the voices)

I got the urge to raise the volume every single time it happened during the finale, because I couldn’t understand a thing, but then the sound would be higher in volume too so it wouldn’t really help…

I love the no sleep podcast and I have been a season pass member since they were first introduced, but I almost gave up on listening to the season 8 finale due to that sound effect… it was really overused :\

Perhaps you should look into EQ setting. If there’s a bass boost toggled on you’re likely to get distortions of some sort but it shouldn’t be as bas as you described. I check my productions on 4 sets of speakers starting off with studio monitors to mackbook speakers and never experience it. Some devices/hifi are likely to distort sound that goes bellow 50-60hz. Look into EQ setting and let me know if you’re still experiencing it.

My bad, it was the suddenly shocking episode, not the finale :)

I listened to it on my apple earbuds (the standard ones) and didn’t experience anything like it. Look into EQ settings and see if there’s something like bass boost, enhancement switched on. I use a lot of low frequency enhancing techniques in both radio and TV world and they never seem to pr problematic unless there’s some kind of enhancement involved :) Let me know. I honestly want to help you figure it out so you could enjoy TNSP :)

“Don’t Be Seen By It” had such creepy and visceral imagery and description that I got the literal chills instead of the usual metaphorical ones. It’s been a long time since a story has done that for me. Well done!

Oh Man! What a great episode to start off the new season! I loved the eerie sound effects made by the crazy man and woman in “I Call them Twists.” What sound effect did use for the woman’s body noises?

The woman’s noises were processed wet lettuce and tomatoes being ripped apart. Thanks for listening!

Maybe I’m missing something, but could somebody please clarify? In “Our Town Was Visited By an Icecream Truck” at the beginning of the store, they state how there are no kids in the town and it’s only old timers. Why is there suddenly kids when the ice cream truck appears?

In the present, there are only old-timers. He was telling a story about the past, when there were still children in town. I assume either the children suffered a terrible fate, or those with children moved out of town since then, or both.

Hello! I’m looking for a story about a suicidal man who gets stopped by a stranger on a bridge offering up an exchange. Where to suicidal man is to give the stranger a year or so of their life and at the end they end up back at the bridge because the deal is done.

Sorry it’s the best I can do to discribe this

I think the story you are looking for is called Still Waters. It’s the first one on episode 8 in season 4.
